Spoonwood Cottage is a unique home nestled in two park like settings. It was built in 1940 by well known local architect Harry Altman. It was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie style homes with its low pitched roof, horizontal lines, central chimney, beautiful stone work, overhanging eaves and open floor plan. It is situated on the top of the mountain ridge among stone paths, mature trees and wildlife. It got its name from the plant called the Mountain Laurel. The local Indians called it Spoonwood because they would use the leaves of the Mountain Laurel as a spoon. The house is ideal for families and/or large groups of friends. It is also a lovely setting for a wedding or small outdoor celebration.
